Within the folds of a craggy hillock, called Aruvimalai, in Madurai district are chiselled 12 Jain beds that are almost 2,000 years old. Archaeologists fear a threat to this site from major quarrying work undertaken just one kilometre away. They want the Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology to declare it a protected spot
